a dress for spring

March is here and the sun is warmly shining - spring is in the air. Is there a better way to celebrate the beginning of the spring than with a brand new dress? I don't think so. For the first time this year I wore a dress (my new dress) and it felt so springy and light - even though I think we still have more snow than in last few years altogether.

I had fun time planning this dress but the actual knitting was a bit tedious. In the end it all worked out great, the dress fits like a dream, it goes as a tunic with jeans as well and the pockets are just right. My grey phase sure continues, but this light grey is perfect for the spring. (At least in my mind.)

I'm all happy. And oh so ready for you spring!

at home

We spent the whole last week at home due illnesses and such. Common colds, luckily. Both little ones had too much energy (yet too little) and the boredom which normally transforms into creative play had no where to go.

So we played all the games we have, set up our tepee, played some more and drew and painted all we could. It was an exhausting week and I'm glad we're back to the normal rhythm of things.

more warm-up

Continuing with small scale I knitted a hat. A slouchy tam sort of hat with the same ingredients as my first warm-up exercise. One cable and waffle stitch - this time the waffle stitch is modified to suit better this project. Fun little knit with no big fuss. Warmest hat I've ever made, which goes well with the cold winter here.

I've been wearing mine very often since I finished it and it starts to look like that. I would probably consider substituting the Hjertegarn Lima with some other worsted weight yarn...

warm-up

There's been a little of this and a little of that, mostly snow and snow and snow. Frost and freeze. The past January was the coldest I can remember right now. And the winter has been amazingly beautiful and magical.

I've been knitting some kind of small warm-up exercises. For example this waffle vest, with one cable. Using some random yarn from stash, I first planned a cardigan - but ripped of the sleeves when I realized how crazy-warm the whole thing was. Now it's perfect. Short, fitted and still warm. So warm.

welcome 2010

New year, new decade. May it be woolen and full of happiness!

We've had some wonderful time over the holidays, with friends and family. We've enjoyed the snow and the great winter here - oh so white and oh so cold. And a little knitting, surely.

That little knitting is mostly my new favourite cardigan. (Hmmm... I think I say that about every finished piece.) But this is so cosy, so warm, so funny and so snugly. Love, love , love it.

Knitted with the yarn I got from my father (the best gift ever). The yarn was spun specially for them many years ago. Too bad they don't have sheep anymore, the yarn is beautiful. It was was natural white, but I decided to dye it. Bold move, but it paid off this time (I do remember some horrifying dye-experiments in the past...) The yellow is perfect!

I can't stop with the pics, I love this so, so much. The collar is so wonderfully versatile (I'm so happy it worked like a dream!) and I'm constantly playing with it. What a great start for a new year of knitting!
