Only a bit more than a week to Christmas! How is that even possible? These two weeks of December have gone by so unbelievably fast... I've been so focused on this fun little calendar adventure, that I haven't really given much thought for the actual Holiday! I should quickly start with all the baking and cleaning and... and the Gifts!

Giving gifts is a huge part of the holiday to us (okay, to me!). I usually try to give handmade gifts, preferably something I did myself. Not that it really happens always, but the intention is good! To be honest, I don't have a single gift yet, but at least I do have cute gift tags... Sharing these with you as today's surprise!

The gift tags should work for many different gifts, even though they were designed especially for knitted things. If your gift isn't woolly, you probably don't need all the material/care info, so just print the top side/first page!

Day 13 in the Knit You Advent Calendar 2014: Coal

This cardigan was also knit a long, long time ago. But the pictures were taken just a few weeks ago. If you look really closely, you might be able to see that this cardigan has been worn a lot already, but the yarn really looks almost like new. And this black/grey colorway is just as beautiful as ever! Thank you dear Jonna for these pictures!

Coal

Coal is a cardigan with wonderful little details: asymmetric zig-zag twisted stitch patterns on back and on one sleeve and deep squishy ribbings. Button up or keep the fronts open - it’s always a pleasure to wear this cardigan!

Yarn: 5 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins of Tosh DK by Madelinetosh

Needles: US 7 [4.5 mm] and US 8 [5 mm]

Finished chest circumference: 32 (36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56)” [80 (90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140) cm].

Day 12 in the Knit You Advent Calendar 2014: Good Old Friend

Nice sweaters for men - not always the easiest thing to find! Kind of the same thing as with knits for boys. Not always the easiest. But this is one I really like!

I just love these simple lines and easy going fit of this design. And it's worked from top down in one piece - so it's super easy! It's not yet the fingering weight sweater my husband has requested, but it's certainly a step toward that...

Good Old Friend

Simple things are often the best! This sweater is a wardrobe staple in every man’s closet, with simple stitches, easy-going fit and lovely relaxed saddle-shoulder yoke. The sweater is worked from top down in one piece in a durable BFL DK that will keep the sweater in use for years to come.

Yarn: 5 (5, 6, 6, 7, 8) skeins of BFL DK by Rät & Avig

Needles: US 7 [4.5 mm] and US 6 [4 mm]

My sweet little niece has grown quite a bit since this sample cardigan was finished, but I think every little baby needs one (or more) of these! And maybe I still have time to knit another cardigan for her before Christmas... Just maybe.

Room to Grow

Room to Grow is a lovely garter stitch cardigan for the little ones. The cardigan is worked from the top down in one piece and finished with simple crochet edging.

Yarn: 2 skeins of Jitterbug by Colinette.

Needles: US 2½ [3 mm]

Finished chest circumference: 18 (19, 20, 21, 22, 23)” [45 (48, 50, 53, 55, 58) cm].

Day 10 in the Knit You Advent Calendar 2014: DIY sweatshirt prints

Not that I couldn't wear a knitted sweater every single day, but sometimes it's good to have a sweatshirt option too! Today's surprise is a few ready-made prints for all you wool loving people around. Must say, I had the best time making these today...

DIY printed sweaters - or bags or t-shirts or...

Note: Be careful when trying this for the first time, maybe try on some old clothes, on something you don't mind ruining if things don't go right the first time... Also follow the instructions on the transfer papers carefully!

You need:

- Plain sweatshirt/t-shirt/bag
- Printer
- Iron-on Transfer papers
- Iron
- Old newspapers
- Scissors

Follow the instructions on your transfer paper to do things right, because they may vary slightly. Also, the prints are mirrored for a reason: that way the text will be right on the final surface!

More gray! Or grey! If there's one color in the world I can't get enough of, that must be gray. In all the different variations and fibers. This slightly to brown leaning gray colorway from The Uncommon Thread, called Toast, is absolutely gorgeous. And it's a great match to this sweet and dressy yet military influenced little cardigan.

When feeling powerless this fitted jacket with short cap sleeves comes to the rescue! Versatile high collar gives comfort and ruffles at back sweeten the military look. Continuing straight from day 6 - today's surprise is the beanie and scarf set you already saw with the Bear pullover! These sample knits have been in good use for quite some time, and they are still as good as new.

Stripes are back! This basic set of slouchy beanie and long scarf is wonderfully warm worked in soft alpaca. Why not knit a set for each family member!
