prints

It might be a spring thing, trying out new things. Like prints. I've had for some time now two great books about that subject on my bookshelf, Lotta prints by Lotta Jansdotter and Printing by Hand by Lena Corwin, but only yesterday i got the urge to try out some printing.

I didn't have a lot of equipment - some old fabric colors (the black one was way too old and bad smelling...), some white canvas and two potatoes. Today I finished three coin purses with simple prints on them and it was so much fun!

The lining is Marimekko fabric Muija by Maija Isola.

not-so-random dress

One half- finished dress or tunic has been hanging in my wardrobe for a --- let me think --- a year and a half now. It was too big, too brown and I hated it. Until now. After finishing my random dress and feeling rather uplifted by the beauty of the whole sewing process, i had the courage to take my ugly-brown-mess-of-linen-dress back in daylight. A few hours of sewing and it was perfect!

I have no idea what made it right this time. I didn't do that much - a few inches from the side seams and a few inches from the hem, some finishing details. Altogether, not that much. And it made all the difference. I think there is some lucky stars above me at the moment.

I want to send my lucky stars to you all too! Take out those unfinished and forgotten pieces - it might be just the right time.

pebble

Fun and quick knit. Small little project, ending with nice but smallish vest. So we have use it as much as possible now (when it still fits) and then give it to someone tiny enough.

random dress

Distractions are lining up to get me away from my needles. Not that I mind, at the moment. Not yet. Spring, sun and a beautiful black piece of linen found from stash transformed into a lovely dress.

I had no pattern, in the beginning I pictured this dress a lot different. In the process it changed and that is exactly what I love the most. Finding the right way, getting everything like it should be - and sometimes that can be a huge step from the original idea.

distractions

All I want to do is knit sweaters. But there seems to be all these distractions, like crocheting and bunnies. No, I should not say bunnies, because there only is one - and that's enough. I'm going back to sweaters.

Pattern: none, but they are everywhere now.
Yarn: DROPS alpaca
Hook: 2,5 mm

I must add: this bunny is now Bunny the Policeman, currently sleeping next to my older boy, A.

I wish you all sweet and quiet Easter.

welcome spring

It's here - bright, sunny and wet spring. We've had a lot of muddy days out there, all of them ending with two exhausted little boys. Knitting has almost been set aside. Luckily little O needed a new hat, and that's what he got.

He got A hat with bright stripes. In the end it's like Brooklyntweed's Turn A Square, though I didn't follow the pattern. (I had to start over three times, since I tried silly things like short rows to cover the ears and weird-looking color work...)
